1927 Chevrolet, Known as "Atatürk's Car," Now Exhibited in Keçiören

The Keçiören Municipality announced that the 1927 Chevrolet, recognized as "Atatürk's Car" and previously owned by Aydoğan Ertuğ, the son of Gazi Sakıp Ertuğ, Atatürk's aide-de-camp and recipient of the Independence Medal, is now being showcased in the district.

The historic vehicle, which Aydoğan Ertuğ inherited from his father, will be available for public viewing in front of the Keçiören Municipality until November 10th.

Speaking about this development, Aydoğan Ertuğ revealed that he currently resides in Alanya, Antalya, and personally drove the car from Alanya to Keçiören. He fondly expressed:

"When Atatürk visited our Keçiören Primary School during my studies, after greeting all the students, I supposedly said something mischievous to him. I don't remember what I said exactly, but it made Atatürk laugh. He called me and kissed both my cheeks. I also kissed his hand. I still remember his blue eyes, thick eyebrows tilted upwards. This incident took place in 1937. Atatürk passed away in 1938. When I returned to Ankara, I would lead all the national holiday processions in representation of Atatürk in this car."

The appellation, "Atatürk's Car," originated from the fact that Aydoğan Ertuğ's father served as the commander of Atatürk's guard regiment. He hailed from a wealthy family and would use this car to commute from Keçiören Dutluk to Ulus and the Parliament. Whenever Atatürk's car was under repair or when official guests were to be received at Esenboğa Airport, and an appropriate vehicle for Atatürk couldn't be found, he would immediately say, "Call Lieutenant Sakıp." This car would then be used. We have two or three other cars like this. These vehicles are seen in the footage from the early days when the Parliament was inaugurated, and my father is also visible in those images. In short, this car is the one Atatürk used to ride."

Aydoğan Ertuğ mentioned that he was classmates with Rahmi Koç and that Vehbi Koç was friends with his father, Sakıp Ertuğ. Due to his father's car during that time, they would occasionally pick up Vehbi Koç from Dutluk and commute to work together.

The Mayor of Keçiören, Turgut Altınok, expressed his honor and delight in showcasing this historic car in Keçiören, inviting all the residents of Ankara to come and see it.
