Hot Rod Enthusiast Creates Stunning Restomod with Roadster Shop Motors
In the realm of automotive restorations, sometimes it's about finding the perfect balance between preserving the classic aesthetic and introducing cutting-edge enhancements. This is exactly what hot rod enthusiast Barry Bloomquist accomplished with his striking 1960 Chevrolet El Camino. Through the expertise of Roadster Shop Motors, Bloomquist transformed the seemingly ordinary pickup into a powerful and comfortable daily driver.
A Beautifully Modernized Exterior
At first glance, this El Camino may resemble an ordinary 1960 model, but a closer look reveals its carefully curated modifications. From the chassis to the stunning blue paint job, Roadster Shop Motors left no stone unturned in revitalizing this classic beauty for Bloomquist.
Bloomquist started with a bare chassis and meticulously rebuilt the vehicle, incorporating several modern components. It now boasts the advanced Roadster Shop Fast Track chassis, providing improved handling compared to the stock setup. The suspension system has also been overhauled, with RS SV shocks on all four corners and a new spring set for enhanced comfort.
Stylish Upgrades and Impressive Performance
Complementing the car's low stance are the three-piece tattoo RS6 wheels, designed by Chris Gray. The front wheels measure 18 inches and are paired with 265 tires, while the rear features a pair of 19-inch wheels wrapped in 275 tires.
For power, this El Camino restomod opted out of going fully electric and instead boasts a GM LS3 engine generating 480 horsepower. It's mated to a Bowler T56 Magnum six-speed manual transmission with a McLeod RST clutch. Additionally, the vehicle's fuel delivery system was upgraded with a 25-gallon tank and a Chevrolet Camaro SS fuel pump, featuring a Vapor Works PWM module. To eliminate any undesirable noise at high speeds, the engine is equipped with Borla mufflers and resonators, connected to a 2.5-inch stainless steel exhaust system.
Aesthetically Pleasing Engine Bay and Enhanced Interior
The engine bay features a 348 409-style valve cover and an air filter adapter, ensuring a clean and polished appearance. Connecting all the components is a Holly serpentine drive system, accompanied by a CNR cross-flow radiator and a 19-inch PWN fan to keep things cool.
The interior has been tastefully updated to match the exterior paint scheme, creating a cohesive look throughout. While the control panel retains its factory-inspired design, it has been upgraded with digital RTX gauges for a more modern touch. Additionally, Bloomquist added a tilted column shifter for improved driving position and individual seats. To complete the classic aesthetic, the El Camino now features a Frigette air conditioning unit, keeping passengers cool while staying true to the '60s vibe.
While a modern interpretation of the El Camino may serve its purpose for a new generation of enthusiasts, nothing quite compares to the allure of a classic design, especially when paired with thoughtful upgrades and a stunning paint job.
