Top-Tier Artists Set to Headline the 2024 Coachella Festival
"Lana Del Rey, Doja Cat, Tyler, the Creator, and No Doubt have been announced as the headliners for the 2024 Coachella festival,"
The lineup also includes Peso Pluma, Blur, J Balvin, Ice Spice, Sublime, Lil Uzi Vert, Grimes, Victoria Monet, Jon Batiste, Bleachers, Justice, Deftones, and Lil Yachty, offering a great mix of established and rising artists such as Bizarrap and Khruangbin. The 23rd edition of the festival will take place at the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, California, over the weekends of April 12-14 and April 19-21.
Those who purchased tickets for the 2023/2022 festival will have early access to cardholder pre-sale starting at 2:00 PM (PT) on January 18th. The general pre-sale will commence on January 19th at 11:00 AM (PT).
YouTube will once again return as the exclusive live stream partner for both weekends of Coachella on the festival's official YouTube channel.
This year, an intriguing fourth ceiling canopy area is being celebrated at the bottom of the festival poster, giving prominence to the artist in the lead role through font size hierarchy but without specifying any particular date for billing. The top three headliners will be featured at the top of the bills for each of the festival's three days. The exact meaning has never been entirely clear. Initially, it seemed like a form of insurance headliner in case of a late-night dance slot or the withdrawal of one of the main headliners (which resulted in the situation with Sweden's House Mafia in 2022 when Kanye West canceled just a few days before the festival, leading to The Weeknd taking over the Sunday night slot). However, last year, when Frank Ocean withdrew from the second weekend following controversial headlines in the first weekend, Blink-182 took his place, and Harris performed DJ sets in the late hours. With No Doubt, an experienced alternative rock group, taking this slot, the significance of the situation becomes even more confusing.
Sources say that Dua Lipa and Shakira, both expecting to release new albums in 2024, are also vying for the headline spots. While it is reported that Lipa bowed out due to unfavorable timing, organizers are said to have passed over Shakira.
Originally announced in January of the same year, the 2020 film of Coachella, which had been postponed four times due to the pandemic, was slated to feature Rage Against the Machine in the lead role. The band had plans for their second reunion tour in 2022, and despite performing 19 concerts, lead singer Zach de la Rocha suffered a serious knee injury, causing the dates to be indefinitely postponed. However, it seems that future plans have been shelved. On January 3rd, drummer Brad Wilk shared the news that the group "will not tour or perform live again."
Last year's headliners were initially planned to be Bad Bunny, Blackpink, and Frank Ocean as the lead act for the first weekend. The elusive singer had planned an elaborate ice skating rink with dozens of skaters for his performance, but at the last minute, the rink was removed, and he started playing a loose, stripped-down set that disappointed many of his fans. He canceled his appearance for the second weekend, and Blink-182 replaced him.
This marked the second consecutive year of last-minute headliner changes. The 2022 headliners were originally set to be Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, and the Swedish House Mafia, but the second performance replaced Kanye West after he took over for the group just a few days before the festival's first weekend.
Coachella is North America's biggest music festival and has already sold out all 125,000 of its daily tickets.
