Tesla CEO Elon Musk has revealed the company is developing a convenient new "Tap to Park" feature for vehicles equipped with Full Self- Driving capabilities. This innovation could hugely simplify the parking experience for drivers.
How "Tap to Park" Works
According to Musk, the upcoming feature will enable Tesla vehicles to identify potential parking spaces in their vicinity. Drivers will then simply tap their preferred spot on the touchscreen interface, exit the vehicle, and let the car seamlessly park itself.
This differs from Tesla's existing Autopark, which requires the driver to remain inside the vehicle and ready to take control if needed. The new system promises fully automated parking that doesn't demand any human oversight.
"A World of Self-Driving Vehicles"
Musk made the comments in response to a post claiming 360-degree camera views are redundant in a future dominated by autonomous vehicles. This hints that the sophisticated "Tap to Park" feature may rely more heavily on powerful visualization algorithms rather than expensive sensor hardware.
When Can We Expect "Tap to Park"?
While an exact timeline is unclear, Tesla continues to rapidly enhance its Full Self-Driving software. The upcoming version 12 promises significantly improved abilities thanks to advances in neural network training. With the technology progressing so quickly, Tesla drivers hopefully won't be waiting too long before they can start tapping to park.
