Netflix's post-apocalyptic thriller Leave the World Behind met with the audience on the platform on December 8. Award-winning writer and director Sam Esmail, who wrote Mr. Robot, tells the story of two families struggling to survive in the midst of an inexplicable situation. The film is based on Rumaan Alam's 2020 bestselling novel of the same name. The film follows two families during a major crisis across the United States, which also includes a major cyberattack. In this respect, it gives warning messages about technology.
I WANTED TO MAKE A CYBER ATTACK MOVIE
Esmail, a writer and director, said, "I've been interested in making a disaster movie for a while. "I wanted to make a film specifically about a cyberattack because I don't think a lot of people have a concrete idea of what that would look like or how damaging it would be, not just in America but globally."
DIVIDED CRITICS AND VIEWERS
The film's Rotten critic score is 75 percent. Critics feel that the well-crafted apocalyptic thriller constantly draws the audience in with simple messages despite its slow pace. However, the attendance rating at Rotten remains at 38 percent. The IMDb score of the movie is 6.6
WHAT IS THE SUBJECT OF THE MOVIE LEAVE THE WORLD BEHIND?
So, what is the plot of the movie Leave the World Behind? Netflix introduces the film with the following words: A family's vacation on a weekend getaway in a luxury rental house takes a sinister turn when a cyberattack disrupts all their devices and two strangers appear at their door.
The plot of the film is as follows: Amanda and her husband Clay rent a luxury house for the weekend with their children Archie and Rose. Their vacation is soon turned upside down when two strangers arrive at night with news of a mysterious cyberattack and seek refuge in the house they claim to be theirs. Two families face a catastrophe that becomes more frightening with each passing minute.
In one scene in the film, Amanda (Julia Roberts) is forced to flee from oncoming Teslas piling up on a highway where cars have been hacked due to their self- driving feature. Netflix also shared this episode on twitter.
Responding to the scene, Elon Musk said, "Even if the world completely turns to Mad Max and there is no gasoline left, Teslas will be able to charge from solar panels."
However, many social media users commented that Musk had not seen the movie. Because, in fact, the scene points to how hackers could theoretically use technologies such as self-driving cars against humans.
